RGP for sale/trade database help

The database is for RGP users to list machines and parts they have for sale or trade.

The boxes at the top are for searching the database (you can use as many fields as you’d like- examples below).

The database listings are just below that.

The bottom is the form to fill out when you have something to sell or trade (add to the database).

Here are some tips on the fields for searching and some field definitions:

“RGP Name” is your user name you use to post on RGP.

“Sell or trade” is a drop down box  - choose one

“Machine or part” is also a drop-down box where you can choose one or the other.

 “Price” is a numeric/money field.

“Sold?” is another either/or field.

“State” is a drop-down list of all US & Canadian state/province 2 digit abbreviations.

“Pics/Website” is a field to paste a link for any pics or a website to send people to so they can see the for sale/trade item.

“RGP Post” is not a searchable field, it is the field where the lister should paste the link to the full RGP posting of the machine for sale or trade.  That way someone can click and go directly to the full RGP description and thread.

The database is in a frame, so to see it all you’ll have to scroll down the page as well as scroll down inside the frame.

Editing/Deleting Records

When you create a new listing you will be emailed a link.  That link is what you use to edit or delete your listing in the future.  Simply click on the link and you will be brought to the listings page.  At the bottom of the page will be the boxes with your info in them – you can change the info and save the listing or simply delete it.

This way, no one can edit or delete the records except the person who created them.

Filtering options

You can combine as many fields as you want in your search.  For instance you can click “CA” in the state field and “<2000” in the price field and you’ll filter down to all the machines for sale in CA for less than $2000.

You can enter “today” in the date filed and “trade” in the “sell or trade” field and see just the games listed today that are for trade.

Wildcards

When you filter for text or a number, you can do more than just match text. You can use a “wildcard”, the asterisk character (*) to do partial matches, and for numeric fields, you can use less than and greater than.

You can use wildcards in any search box (the * key is the wildcard).  For instance, typing “Zac*” in the search box for “RGP Name” will filter down to anybody whose name begins with “Zac”.  For that matter, “*as*” will find anybody with an “as” anywhere in their name since the wildcards are both before and after the “as”.

Anything or nothing

The database also recognizes the word “anything” which matches a value that is not empty or blank. You can write “not anything” to find values that are blank.

One value or another

You can also use the semi-colon to separate multiple possible values — in other words, to filter one value or another in a particular field.

Examples

Here are examples of different filters you can write:

Date field additional coolness

When creating a filter for a date field, you can use keywords like “Today”, “Tomorrow” or “Friday”, the meaning of which will always be applied in context. So, for example, you can have a filter that limits entries to those that include today’s date, and the meaning of “today” will always be current. You can also use “before” and “after”, and “from now” and “ago”. For example, “before 7 days from now” would filter for entries whose Date field is any date up until 7 days in the future. “after 6 months ago” would find entries more recent than 6 months ago.
